Privacy Mode

Updated 2026-02-17

Privacy Mode lets you display reviews while protecting the identity of your reviewers. This guide explains how it works and how to enable it.

What Privacy Mode Does

When Privacy Mode is enabled on a widget:

  • Reviewer names are replaced with “Anonymous Customer”.
  • Profile pictures are replaced with a generic anonymous avatar.
  • Links to original reviews are removed (the “View on Google” / “View on Facebook” / “View on Trustpilot” links are hidden).
  • Reviewer names are not clickable.
  • Review content, star ratings or recommendation status, review dates, and source attribution remain visible.

When to Use Privacy Mode

  • Your business operates in regions with strict privacy laws (EU, UK, California, etc.).
  • You want to take extra precautions with customer data.
  • Your industry involves sensitive topics where reviewer anonymity is preferred.
  • You want a uniform, clean look for all reviews regardless of source.

How to Enable Privacy Mode

For New Widgets

When creating a widget, check the Privacy Mode checkbox in the Options section of Step 1 (Configure).

For Existing Widgets

  1. Go to the app dashboard and click Manage on the widget you want to update.
  2. On the Details tab, toggle the Privacy Mode setting.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Privacy Mode affect ratings?

No. Star ratings, recommendation status, review text, and overall statistics remain unchanged.

Does it remove all personal information?

Privacy Mode removes reviewer names and profile pictures from the display. If a reviewer included personal information within the text of their review, that content will still be visible. To remove sensitive content from a review, contact the original review platform.

Can I toggle Privacy Mode on an existing widget?

Yes. Go to the widget management page, toggle Privacy Mode on or off, and save your changes. The widget will update immediately.

Does Privacy Mode affect SEO?

No. Review content is still fully visible to search engines regardless of the Privacy Mode setting.

Is Privacy Mode required for GDPR compliance?

Privacy Mode helps with privacy compliance but is not a complete GDPR solution on its own. See our GDPR Compliance guide for more information.
