Welcome to Sociable Reviews! This guide will walk you through setting up and displaying authentic reviews from Google, Facebook, and Trustpilot on your Shopify store.
Installation
- Install the Sociable Reviews app from the Shopify App Store.
- When prompted, click Install app to add it to your store.
- You will be redirected to the app dashboard after confirming the subscription.
Creating Your First Widget
Sociable Reviews uses a three-step wizard to create a widget:
Step 1: Configure
On the app dashboard, click Create Widget to begin.
Review Sources --- Select one or more platforms to pull reviews from. Each source requires its own identifier:
- Google --- Start typing your business name in the autocomplete search field. Select your business from the dropdown and your Google Place ID will be filled in automatically. You can also enter a Place ID manually if you prefer.
- Facebook --- Enter the full URL of your Facebook business page (e.g.
https://www.facebook.com/yourbusiness). - Trustpilot --- Enter your Trustpilot business URL (e.g.
https://www.trustpilot.com/review/yourbusiness.com).
Widget Details:
- Widget Name --- A label to identify this widget in your admin (optional).
- Business Name --- How your business name appears in the widget (optional). If you use the Google autocomplete, this is filled in automatically.
- Number of Reviews --- How many reviews to display (1—30, default 10).
Options:
- Privacy Mode --- Hides reviewer names and profile pictures. Names are replaced with “Anonymous Customer” and profile images are replaced with a generic avatar. Links to original reviews are also removed.
- Positive Only --- Displays only 4—5 star reviews (for Google and Trustpilot) or “Recommends” reviews (for Facebook).
Step 2: Select Reviews
After your reviews are synced from the selected platforms, you can curate which reviews appear in your widget:
- Click on individual reviews to select or deselect them.
- The order you click determines the display order on your storefront.
- Use the source filter tabs to view reviews from a specific platform.
- Use Select All or Deselect All for quick changes.
- If you need to refresh the reviews from the source platforms, click Resync Reviews.
Step 3: Save
Review a summary of your widget configuration, copy your Widget ID, and click Save Widget.
Adding the Widget to Your Theme
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Navigate to the page where you want to display reviews.
- Click Add section or Add block, then select Apps → Sociable Reviews.
- In the block settings, paste your Widget ID. If you leave it blank, your first widget will be used by default.
- Choose a Layout (Standard, Compact, or Carousel).
- Optionally adjust the Top/Bottom Margin and Custom Loading Message.
- Click Save to publish.
To find your Widget IDs at any time, click Widget IDs for App Block in the app dashboard.
Layout Options
Sociable Reviews offers three layout styles. You choose the layout in the Shopify theme editor.
Standard
A responsive grid layout. Reviews display in one column on mobile, two columns on tablets, and three columns on larger screens. Each card shows the reviewer avatar, name, date, star rating (or Facebook recommendation), review content, a link to the original review, and the review source.
Compact
A condensed version of the standard layout with smaller avatars, reduced font sizes, and fewer visible lines of review text. Ideal for areas with limited space.
Carousel
A horizontally scrolling layout with previous/next navigation buttons and touch-swipe support on mobile. Ideal for homepages and sections where vertical space is limited.
Managing Your Widgets
From the app dashboard, you can:
- Manage --- Edit widget settings, toggle Privacy Mode, and curate review selection.
- Resync --- Pull the latest reviews from all connected platforms.
- Delete --- Remove a widget entirely.
On the widget management page, use the Review Selection tab to change which reviews are displayed and in what order, without recreating the widget.
